Cleaning Your Furniture And Preventing Furniture Damages

By Chris Channing

New furniture and old furniture alike needs to be treated with care so that it does not get damaged. Cleaning furniture can be tedious, but it doesn't have to be. Because furniture is the core of our homes, and expresses our personality, no one wants dingy furniture pieces sitting around in the family room. There are plenty of ways to take care of your furniture without damaging it, and preventing it from getting damaged in the future.

If you just bought some furniture, you can start cleaning it after 2 weeks of owning it. That's usually how long it takes to get a bit dirty anyway, unless a lot of people use your furniture. Dry shampoos for furniture can clean it up quickly and easily, with no water and no messes. This is great for furniture that can be damaged with water, such as suede or silk fabrics.

Leather is a tricky material to clean, and so is imitation leather. Couches, chairs, stools, and tables, can all be easily cleaned with a leather oil. It absorbs quickly, and leaves your furniture shiny and supple as the day you purchased it. Keep in mind, small animals that live in your home may lick the furniture, and it could be dangerous to their health.

If your furniture has become dirtier than you would like, you can always opt to use a steam cleaner vacuum on the surfaces that it can be used on. These work wonders on deeply penetrated stains, and suck out most of the dirt and grime.

Staining is bound to happen, but we all hate when it does. Body fluids, such as blood can be removed with ease. When it first spills onto furniture, make sure you rise it with cold water, or wash the material thoroughly. If it is old stains, meat tenderizer can remove it after soaking into the material. Peroxide, and baking soda can also work wonders for pesky stains. Never underestimate the power of random household goods for removing hard to remove stains.

For food particles getting stuck on your furniture, such as gum or other sticky things, an ice cube and peanut butter can solve your problem. Use an ice cube to freeze it and make it hardened, and then peanut butter to help with scrubbing the sticky gunk off.

Furniture cleaning can be done quickly, and should be done quickly. Since furniture pieces are all different, and vintage materials have different requirements for cleaning than new simple ones, you should always get a 2nd opinion on what needs to be done to your piece of furniture. - 15252
