A few days ago, I went over to a friend's house in light of research. My friend, quite recently, had his concrete floor polished, so I took the chance to take a peek at it. He did seem a bit too excited about the floor he had polished. In any case, he made a really nice cup of cappuccino with the new espresso machine he got.
The first thing I noticed when I arrived was the flooring. Probably because I had already seen what it had originally looked like. And yes, it was indeed very handsome. Clearly, it did stand out from the rest of the interior even though he had everything else renovated as well.
But then, that might be a bad thing. The floor did not succesfully complement the rest of the house's interior as it should. Although my friend did try his best to adhere to a unifying factor; the house had a standard motif which was followed by even the concrete flor. Unfortunately, polished concrete floors will still stand out.
I will need to see other types of polished concrete before I make my final judgement, but for the moment I believe this type of flooring is best suited for non-residential purposes. Put them in hotel lobbies, in industrial centers, perhaps even in schools. Its glamorous nature is not fit for the home, so avoid doing so. That, or make sure you have a completely glamorous home to achieve the balance needed.
And to be fair, it wasn't that bad. His home is still generally pleasing to the eye. And it seemed like he wanted his floor to stand out, so kudos to that friend of mine. In addition, I should applaud the relatively little expense that he paid for it. This benefit will also be reinforced if concrete polishing does last; as you don't have to pay for upkeep. Time will tell. - 15252
