Clich? So what? Bring Bling on Valentines Day!

By Art Barron

Jewelry is a standard when it comes to romantic relationships. Whether a lover is proposing, appreciating or apologizing, there is always jewelry. The practice just never gets old! It's not surprising why. After all, here is one area where traditional does not mean second rate.

But before you go thinking if a visit to the jewelry shop will ultimately brand you as a walking clich, here's a list of reasons why you should give jewelry on Valentines Day.

Reason # 1: They last forever. Yes, your five dozen roses can sweeten up the bedroom---but only for a few days! If you want something that will exclaim that your love is eternal, try a diamond or sterling silver. One of the sweetest things about being a couple is being able to say ten years from now "hey, this is the ring he gave me Valentines Day a decade ago!" Now can you say the same about chocolate?

Reason 2: Make them custom-made and say what you want to say. Contrary to rumors, buying jewelry doesn't instantly mean last-minute. Go personalized and let your beloved know how much thought you gave when choosing your gift. You can have the pendant engraved with his name or pick out charms of her favorite pastimes for a bracelet. If met in a ball game, why not pick out earrings shaped into a baseball? Let your gifts speak for you!

Reason # 3: Value just goes up. If you use gold or silver, then you're sure to have two things: A beautiful gift and a smart investment. Gold and silver are two metals that never lose their value. For an extra special touch (and value), why not add precious stones? It's tantamount to saying that your lover is as precious to you as this piece of jewelry, and that will last as long.

Reason # 4: They are well-accepted symbols of relationship ideals. Commitment. Love. Beauty. Authenticity. Rarity. Endlessness. Strength. Need we say more?

Reason # 5: They go with anything! Here is a logic only a woman (or a fashion enthusiast!) would understand. Jewelry is always a great option because you don't have to worry about mix and matching them with your outfit (Yes folks, this matter!). A silver bracelet can go with any wardrobe at any occasion. And if you have an eye for color, pick a setting that brings out the color of your lover's eyes. You can't go wrong with minding style.

Reason # 6: It's a way of proclaiming you match! Some couples tattoo their partner's name on their arm or ankle; others wear matching tees. But if you want something more subtly classy than an "I-belong-to-Eric" shirt, have rings that match or pendants that complete each other. It's a way to express that you belong to one another--- minus the cheesiness.

Reason # 7: You will always have a piece of him/ her close to you. A pendant rests over one's heart; come on folks, what's more romantic than that? Even if the two of you are geographically separated, you know that a part of your is always bodily near. The jewelry will keep you in your loved one's constant awareness. Out of sight need not mean out of mind.

Reason 8: Options. Options. Options. There are some people who think that jewelry is a scary option because they always equate jewelry to costing an arm, a leg, or even both. This might have been true once, but it isn't like that any more. Being on a budget, there are lots of stores that can give you cuts and settings for less. Remember, you don't have to go with expensive diamonds right away. There are birthstones that are just as beautiful at a price within your means.

Reason 9: Best friends never leave the other! Last but not the least, diamonds and girls are still best of friends. There are plenty of surveys that polls which women prefer more: chocolates, flowers or lingerie, but women still choose jewelry over any other. It's a good thing that men are catching up to this trend. It's a real winner! - 15252
