Choosing The Right Carpet

By Kal Gutman

When shopping for a major purchase for your home such as carpet there are some considerations with regards to what quality can you receive without compromising your budget, You are in control with the proper research and understanding of the textile you are about to purchase.

Looking for proper information can be quite daunting and the first step is to check out the fibers and construction or makeup of a carpet that is going to stand the test of time. It is important to know that you can stick to your budget and still have a quality piece of fabric to last a good part of a lifetime.

The right type of fiber is going be an easy choice since nylon is the most robust and durable when it comes to wearability that is why it is the most popular when you visit your local retailer always consider the nylon products first. Polyester can be a consideration for low traffic areas but not on stairs and hallways as this fibre tends to matt down and lose it's lustre.

Choosing nylon only makes sense when looking at wearability and longevity. But their are other factors involved such as the density is always an important factor to consider as the carpet will tend to stand up to more "traffic abuse" and will clean really well.

You have to consider if pets could be in the home also which could create a problem especially "berber" carpet which I recommend you stay clear away from. The durability factor is short in high traffic areas and the loops in the berber are too loose and sparse for it to be durable at all. It also is not vacuum friendly as berbers tend to "run" almost the same as a stocking or a knitted woolen sweater.

Just because a carpet looks beautiful does not mean it will stand up to high traffic and falling for the appearance is big mistake when you see how much a carpet costs these days and it would seem wiser to take the time to give yourself the ammunition so that when you visit the retailer you can make an informed decision. - 15252
