The Kichler Difference

By James Gilbert Pynn

If I've said it once, I'll say it again: you can always trust a man named Sam. Or so goes the song. In 1954, a man named Sam bought himself a small lighting company in Cleveland, Ohio. The rest is lighting history. What's that? You know nothing about lighting history? It's a sad commentary on our public schools when common folk don't know their lighting history. Well, then, allow me to educate, and perhaps even, entertain.

Sam Minoff happened to see opportunity when it presented itself. He was so enamored of a small family-owned company, called Kichler Lighting, he bought them out and decided to run it himself. You've got to admire the gumption. But Sam was not some carpetbagger, eager to profit on the misery of others, he was eager to secure his family's future and the future of Kichler. Two birds, one stone. The company had been ailing until Sam got his golden hands on it.

Sam directed the success of a company that used to make about $1000 a month to the $100 million dollar powerhouse it is today. With more than 1,100 employees, Kichler is a national lighting mover and shaker. They have a 631,00 square-foot assembly and distribution center, a glass factory in Connecticut, two plants in Mexico, and six distribution centers across this great land of ours. That's good old Sam.

With Sam at the helm, Kichler has scoured the ends of the earth is search of the very best materials with which to craft their distinctive fixtures. Contemporary, traditional, or casual, the choice is all yours. Sam makes it that easy. Just decide what you want the fixture to do for a room -- after all, different fixtures do different things -- then get moving. A new room or home is only a few screws away.

Let's say where you need help isn't inside, but outside. Nothing is more depressing than an unlit house at night. Come on, put a little effort into it. Kichler has a host of outdoor lighting fixture to match any color siding or roof. Beautify your home and thwart any would-be burglars with some well-placed lights. The difference is Kichler Lighting and the difference is a man named Sam. - 15252
